The report of the AASSA General Assembly in Philippine

The President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Academician Isa Habibbeyli represented the scientific institution of our country at the General Assembly meeting of the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia-(AASSA) held in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. 

The meeting of the General Assembly was opened by Professor Jaime Montoya, President of the Philippine Academy of Science and Technology, in accordance with the organization’s Charter. Professor Ahmad Nuri Yurdusev, President of the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia, delivered a comprehensive report on the three-year activity of the scientific organization, which encompasses the Academies of Sciences from 34 countries. At the plenary session of the General Assembly, Professor Dohan Kim, President of the South Korean Academy of Science and Technology, Professor B. Chovdari, Director of the Scientific Research Center of the National University of Singapore, Kenji Satake, Director of the Research Institute at the University of Tokyo and Academician Isa Habibbeyli, President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences made speeches at the event and spoke about the activity of AASSA and the tasks ahead.

As part of the General Assembly, an international scientific conference on the topic of “Digital Transformations and Perspectives in Science” was held. The conference featured presentations and speeches of heads and prominent scientists of the Academies of Sciences and universities from Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Russia, Japan, India, Malaysia, Thailand and Nepal as well as representatives from the Asian Development Bank and the Asian Information Agency.  

Subsequently, the elections for the leadership of AASSA for the years 2027-2030 were held. The candidacy of Prof. Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro, nominated by the Indonesian Academy, and the candidacy of Prof. Rofina Yasmin Othman, President of the Academy of Sciences and Technology of Malaysia, were discussed for the presidency of the Association for the next term. According to the results of the voting, Professor Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro, Indonesia’s Minister of Science and Education, was elected president of AASSA. 

In addition, during the meeting of the General Assembly, the Vice President of AASSA and six members of the Board of Directors were also elected.  

The President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli met with the presidents of the Academies of Science and Technology of Philippines and New Zealand to discuss issues of mutual cooperation.

During the meeting of the General Assembly, it was decided to hold one of the meetings of AASSA at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
