The scientific research institutions of the Nakhchivan Division of ANAS presented their report on scientific and organizational activities for 2024.
The President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Academician Isa Habibbeyli attended the report meeting, held in this regard.
An exhibition of scientific works published by the employees of the division throughout the year was reviewed at the beginning.
The report meeting was opened by the Chairman of the Nakhchivan Division of ANAS, Academician Ismayil Hajiyev. He said that the annual report meetings of scientific research institutions are not only beneficial for analyzing the results of conducted studies but also help determine the main directions of activities for the coming year.
Academician Ismayil Hajiyev gave information on the final results achieved at the Nakhchivan Division this year and the scientific works published, comparing this year’s indicators with those of the previous year. He brought to attention the innovations in the preparation of this year’s report and works aimed at increasing the activity of division scientists and young researchers in scientometric databases, as well as the growing number of references to scientific works. Ismayil Hajiyev also underlined the scientific conferences, events, and publications held within the framework of the “Green World Solidarity Year” and in connection with the Presidential Decree on the 100th anniversary of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
The President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that the Academy currently undergoes a multifaceted renewal process and touched upon the responsibilities this period places on the employees. Giving information about the innovations and the newly established departments of the Academy, Isa Habibbeyli emphasized that the ongoing reforms must be realized in line with the demand of the time and the interests of the country.
The head of ANAS spoke about the events held at the Academy regarding digitalization and the activity of the Electronic Academy Department, highly praising the works carried out in this direction at the Nakhchivan Division. He noted that by the end of the year, ANAS will fully transit to an Electronic Circulation System.
During his speech, Academician Isa Habibbeyli determined several tasks for the scientists. It was emphasized that conducting research in the field of Azerbaijani studies is the basis of the activity of ANAS. As a continuation of this work, the scope of research related to literary and historical figures must be expanded, and the studies on the subject should be published in the form of books and monographs. Without repeating existing work, new directions should be determined in line with the demands of the modern period and activities must be carried out with consideration of universal values and the interests of the country. This activity is one of the main directions of ANAS, which is currently undergoing a period of renewal in both form and content.
In addition, greater attention should be given to publishing articles in foreign languages, and the dissemination of scientific research to the international scientific community must be a priority. Publishing articles in the “Scopus” and “Web of Science” scientific databases should especially be kept in mind. It is encouraging that, with a small team, the Nakhchivan Division has published 7 articles in 2024 in the “Scopus” and “Web of Science” databases. This is not only an achievement of the Nakhchivan Division but also a result of the division’s well-organized activities.
Later, Vali Bakhshaliyev, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of the Institute of History, Ethnography and Archaeology, corresponding member of ANAS, presented a report on the scientific and organizational activities for 2024 of the research institution he represents.
The professor said that in the current year, scientific research at the Institute of History, Ethnography, and Archaeology has been conducted in one direction, focused on one problem and one topic, across 7 works and 14 stages. During the reporting period, studies were carried out on various issues of the region’s history, including the archaeology, ethnography, and epigraphy of Nakhchivan. Throughout the year, the institute’s staff published 120 scientific works, including 8 monographs, 1 methodological guide, 66 scientific articles, and 45 conference materials. Among these, 1 work was published in the “Web of Science” scientific database, and 4 in impact factor journals. In total, 17 works were published abroad, and 37 newspaper articles by the staff were released.
In 2024, two employees of the institute successfully defended their doctoral dissertations, and three young researchers were admitted to the doctoral program in the Republic of Türkiye.
During the reporting period, two archaeological expeditions were conducted at the Bulovgaya, I and II Khalaj settlements, and as a result of the archaeological research, new facts and materials were obtained.
Speaking about the institute’s international relations, Professor Vali Bakhshaliyev, mentioned that the Institute of History, Ethnography, and Archaeology continues its cooperation with the US University of Pennsylvania, Monash University of Australia, and the universities of Samsun, Istanbul, Erzurum, and Kars of Türkiye. Joint projects have been accepted with the USA on “Researching the Iron Age Monuments of Nakhchivan” and with Australia on “Study of the Middle Bronze Age Monuments of Nakhchivan”. Two projects were prepared in collaboration with Samsun University and submitted to the TUBITAK grant project competition. Two employees of the institute collected 85 archival documents related to the 19th-20th century history of Nakhchivan from the Russian State Historical Archive located in Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation, and brought them to Nakhchivan.
The Director of the Institute of Art, Language, and Literature, corresponding member of ANAS Abulfaz Guliyev, provided information about the scientific and organizational activities of the research institution he leads. He said that scientific research covering one problem and one topic was conducted at the institute in 16 stages across 7 works.
During the reporting year, the institute’s staff published 182 scientific works, including 3 monographs, 3 books, 113 scientific articles, 61 conference materials, and 2 theses. Of these works, 28 were published abroad, and 55 were published in prestigious journals with international codes. Among the articles, 5 were published in the “Web of Science”, 1 in “Scopus” and 1 in the Ulakbim scientometric databases, with 8 appearing in impact-factor journals. The publication of three issues of the institute’s journal, “Axtarışlar”, was ensured in line with modern standards, and 143 articles by the staff were featured in newspapers and websites.
Under the scientific editorship of Academician Isa Habibbeyli, the fundamental book “Nakhchivan Literary Environment” was prepared for publication in connection with the 100th anniversary of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, along with the compilation of 29 reviews and essays. During the reporting period, collections of articles titled “Huseyn Razi: Fate and Art” and “The Great Azerbaijani Poet Mahammad Fuzuli” were published.
Seminar for the doctoral dissertations of two institute staff members were held, and their dissertations were approved for defense.
The director of the Manuscripts Fund, Doctor of Philology Farman Khalilov presented the report on the scientific and organizational activities of the fund in 2024. He said that during the reporting year, scientific research was conducted in accordance with the plan, focusing on one problem and one topic, across 3 works and 4 stages. The fund’s staff published 45 scientific works, including 1 monograph, 2 books, 28 articles, 12 conference materials, and 2 theses. Of these, 7 works were published abroad, and 21 scientific articles were featured in internationally coded journals, 3 of which were in impact factor journals. 12 newspaper articles by the fund’s employees were published during the year.
During the expedition to the Shahbuz region, an ancient printed book was acquired and registered. Additionally, one ancient printed book donated by Doctor of Philology Farman Khalilov was added to the Fund’s collection. As a result, the total number of manuscripts and printed books preserved in the Fund reached 640.
Vali Bakhshaliyev, corresponding member of ANAS, Elkhan Mammadov, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of the Institute of Art, Language, and Literature, PhD in philology, associate professor, Asaf Orujov, Head of the Department at the Institute of History, Ethnography, and Archaeology, PhD in history, associate professor, and Mehriban Sultanova, Leading Specialist in the International Relations Department of the Division’s administration, PhD in philology made speeches at the event, sharing their opinions on the reports and offering suggestions.
At the meeting, President of ANAS, Isa Habibbeyli delivered a concluding speech. The Academician shared his conclusions on the presented reports, expressed positive views, and wished success to the division’s staff in their future activities.
