An annual reporting meeting on the results of the scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the Lankaran Regional Scientific Center of ANAS for the year 2024 was held.
The meeting was attended by the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, the Vice-President, Academician Irada Huseynova, the academic secretary, Academician Arif Hashimov, representatives of the scientific community, and the staff of the Scientific Center.
The participants of the event first visited the monument of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in Lankaran city, laid wreaths of flowers at the monument.
Then, they visited the commemorative corner established in the administrative building of the institution in memory of Mahsun Baghirzade, a martyr of the 44-day Patriotic War and a former employee of the Regional Scientific Center. Flowers were laid at the martyr’s bas-relief.
Opening the reporting meeting with an introductory speech, the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli spoke in detail about the reforms carried out in the modernized Academy in light of the calls of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. He touched upon the measures implemented over the past two years. Noting that during this period, the electronic movement had been successfully started within ANAS and continues to thrive and new departments covering priority areas had been established through internal resources, Academician Isa Habibbeyli emphasized that a new development concept and roadmap of ANAS are currently prepared in line with the country’s development strategy, universal values, the realities of the country, and the global challenges of modern period. The head of ANAS said that in a short period successful results had been achieved at the Lankaran Regional Scientific Center on several scientific directions and underscored the importance of research on priority areas.
Then, the Director of the Lankaran Regional Scientific Center of ANAS, PhD in Philology Mehman Aliyev, presented the annual report on the activities of the Scientific Center for 2024. He provided extensive information about the research conducted at the center throughout the year in various scientific fields, the scientific results obtained, published works, and scientific articles as well as scientific conferences and sessions, exhibitions, book presentations, and events dedicated to significant days and anniversaries.
Following this, the report was discussed.
The Vice-President of ANAS, Academician Irada Huseynova, and the academic secretary, Academician Arif Hashimov delivered speeches at the meeting, sharing their thoughts on the presented report, and highly evaluated the works carried out at the Lankaran Regional Scientific Center throughout the year.
During the discussion of the report, the staff members of the Center also made speeches and shared their opinions on the matter.
At the end of the event, the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that the presented report fully reflected the productive activities of the Regional Center throughout the year and highly praised the steps taken by the center during its renewal phase. The head of ANAS considered it appropriate to propose to the Presidium the establishment of two new departments within the History and Literature Department of the Lankaran Regional Scientific Center, based on internal resources: the Department of Literature and Folklore of Minority Peoples and the Department of History, Ethnology, and Archaeology. This will contribute to a deeper study of the region’s literary environment, folklore, history, archaeology, and ethnography.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli also emphasized the necessity of establishing the “Scientific Works” journal by the Lankaran Regional Scientific Center starting from 2025. He highlighted the importance of expanding research on longevity and gerontology, as well as broadening the scope of studies in numismatics, epigraphy, and several other scientific fields distinguished by the unique characteristics of the region. He provided relevant instructions and recommendations regarding digital sphere, dissertation topics, the publication of monographic works, and stressed the need to increase attention and care for young scientists.
In conclusion, the library, which was established at the Scientific Center last year for the first time upon the instruction of academician Isa Habibbeyli, was gifted 100 books by the leadership of the Academy.
Following the event, the leadership of ANAS visited the tea and citrus plant experimental field of the Lankaran Regional Scientific Center, familiarizing themselves with the ongoing laboratory research and the working conditions.
