ANAS Nakhchivan Department launched the conference "Khojaly tragedy: a crime against humanity" dedicated to 24th anniversary of Khojaly genocide on February 24.

In advance, memory of Khojaly victims was cherished for a minute of silence.

At the event, Chairman of the Department, Academician Ismayil Hajiyev said that occasionally treacherous Armenians carried out aggressive policy and shed the blood of innocent people in our land.

Noted that, the unprecedented genocide committed by armed military units on night of February 26, 1992 by the USSR's 366th regiment, was directed not only Azerbaijan, but also against to whole mankind. Academician Hajiyev noted that, during the incident, 613 people were killed with extreme cruelty; hundreds of people were taken prisoner and hostage.

He emphasized that the Khojaly tragedy will never rub off from the memory of our people.

I.Hajiev noted that, a political and legal assessment to Khojaly tragedy was given by the initiative of great leader Heydar Aliyev.

At the conference reported: Scientific Secretary of the Institute of History, Ethnography and Archaeology of Department, PhD in History Yashar Rahimov on "The path leading to the Khojaly tragedy", Head of Department of the Institute, PhD in History, Associate Professor Ilham Aliyev on "Khojaly tragedy as part of the policy of genocide carried out by Armenians against Azerbaijanis", senior researcher of the Institute, PhD in history Zeynab Guliyeva on "Heroes of Khojaly", Scientific Secretary of the Institute of Art, Language and Literature, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Ramiz Gasimov on "Khojaly tragedy in Azerbaijan literature."

The speakers regarded the Khojaly genocide as an international terror act.

Noted that, the Khojaly genocide has became to the history of the Azerbaijani people as a heroic page.

This page with years must be transmitted to the future generation and each Azerbaijani must deeply know their history, to distinguish friend from enemy. On this theme should be written the fundamental works.
