II Special Division of the ANAS Presidium Administration held seminar together with Civil Defense (CD) headquarters of the institute and organizations of ANAS.

Opening the seminar division chief Eldar Guliyev drew attention to the issues of agenda, informed on the intensiveness of seismic activity in seismic zones and occurrence of earthquakes in this case and noted that today’s seminar will be devoted to these issues.

Later on, chief department of Macro seismic studies under Republican Seismological Survey Center of ANAS, PhD in geology-mineralogy Etibar Garaveliyev made a presentation on “Seismic zones and seismic activity of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2003-2015)”. Speaking about the characteristic features of earthquakes for the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, lecturer also touched upon landslides, floods, droughts, sea level raise, natural and man-made disasters and forest precipitation as emergencies and dangerous, catastrophic phenomena.

He said that republic's territory is the part of the Alpine-Himalayan fold system characterized by high seismic activity, so powerful and destructive earthquakes have occurred here. Based on the results obtained from seismic studies conducted in the last 12 years, i.e during digital telemetry seismic observation system, earthquakes of magnitude 5-7 were happened in the country. Seismicity of the area of Azerbaijan was higher in 2014 – 2015, noted E. Garaveliyev.

At the seminars we discussed the issue of execution of orders of the President of ANAS on 22 February 2016 on the establishment of the Plan of Civil Defense in the scientific institutions of the Academy. Informing about this, Eldar Guliyev noted that the plan of civil defense must be drawn up by June 1 and approved by the regional centers for civil defense and emergencies, as well as the second special department. Speaking about the work related with the execution of orders, Guliyev said that the plan of civil defense of ANAS will be drawn up, and after consultation with the commander of the Civil Defense Troops of the Ministry of Emergency Situations will be presented to the President of ANAS. Head of Department informed the participants of the situation in connection with the Plan of representation in academia as a normative document, and providing the necessary methodological assistance.

The event was also given information about the activities carried out in research institutes and organizations of ANAS in connection with the March 1 - World Day of Civil Defence.
