Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

2nd Special Department of ANAS Presidium Administration held a seminar by participation of the Civil Defense headquarters of the institutions and organizations of Academy.

At the event, Head of the 2nd Special Department Eldar Guliyev expressed confidence that, participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the IV Summit on Nuclear Security in Washington, his speech on nuclear security in the region, meeting with U.S senior officials, as well as negotiations in the near future will give their important results.

Head of the Department brought to the attention of the participants of seminar’s issues on the agenda.

Further, Deputy Director for Research of the Institute of Radiation Problems of ANAS, PhD in physics Ravan Mehdiyeva spoke on "Radio ecological state of Azerbaijan and the speech of the President of Azerbaijan Republic on nuclear safety in the region at the Nuclear Security Summit." 

Talking about the features of the natural and artificial radionuclides, the speaker said that the radioecological situation is defined as a result of scientific research on the distribution of radionuclides of natural and artificial origin in the atmosphere, lithosphere and hydrosphere and their assessment of the effects on living organisms and the environment: "For the reason, that our country does not have nuclear technology and nuclear power systems, radio-ecological situation is characterized by natural sources of radiation ".

Revan Mehdiyeva brought to mind outputs of studies carried out associated with amount of natural radiation sources, radioactivity and their radiation intensity in the regions of the country and production areas, generating main man-made factors, to the participants.

Making speech on 4th Nuclear Security Summit, Deputy Director stated that, inviting President of the Republic of Azerbaijan there proves statehood prestige of Azerbaijan in a global arena as a result of purposeful domestic and foreign policy, and assessment of its economic development: “It is the estimate of Azerbaijan’s contribution to the security in the world.”

Stressing out the registration, maintenance, and use of nuclear and radioactive materials are carried out in accordance with rules and norms of the International Atomic Energy Agency R. Mehdiyeva drew attention to the establishment and formation of State Agency for Regulation of Nuclear and Radiological Activity under Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The speaker stated that, President Ilham Aliyev expressed his confidence in settle of all progressive challenges in the summit and provide of life security.

Steering staff informed on the civil defense exercises which held in the scientific ventures during March.

In closing, 5 years of civil defense plans for institute and organizations of ANAS were recommended.
