Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

On April 7, 1906, journal “Molla Nasraddin”, which had special place in press history of Azerbaijan, was released in Tiflis. Editor-in-chief and author of a journal, publishing in Tiflis (1906-1918), Tabriz (1921) and Baku (1922-1931), was Jalil Mammadguluzadeh.

Today 110 years pass since the publication of first issue of “Molla Nasraddin”. On the occasion of jubilee, commemorative event was took place in front of grave of journal founder and publisher, notable dramatist-writer social figure Jalil Mammadguluzadeh in the Alley of Honor by participation of staff of the Institute of Literature and Memorial Flat of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh.

Event was attended by students of Baku secondary school N 6.

In advance, staff pilgrimaged the graves of national leader Heydar Aliyev and notable scientist Zarifa Aliyeva. Then, they visited graves of a number of man-of-letters, including celebrate writer Jalil Mammadguluzadeh, put flowers on them.

In advance, Vice-President of ANAS, director of the Institute of Literature Academician Isa Habibbayli congratulated event attendees on this remarkable day. He spoke about invaluable role of "Molla Nasraddin" journal, operating for 25 years at regular intervals, in the development of the media and shaping of public opinion. Publication of "Molla Nasraddin" aroused interest not only in Azerbaijan, but in the whole Middle East.

Then Vice-President of ANAS told about outstanding representative of Azerbaijani literature of XX century – Jalil Mammadguluzadeh. “Jalilshunaslig” trend was created in Azerbaijan literature and numerous scientific studies were carried out about life and creativity of thinker.

According to scientist, throughout his life J. Mammadguluzadeh’s main goal was to serve his people and to struggle for its prosperity. Creating this journal, he had written his name to the history of public opinion of Azerbaijan with gold letters, added I. Habibbayli.

Director of Memorial Flat of J.Mammadguluzadeh Honored Art Worker Parikhanum Mahmudova, Doctors of Philology Zaman Asgarli and Asif Rustamli noted the role and place of Azerbaijan ideology, brought by Mirze Jalil to the history of public opinion.

In addition, is intended to hold conference dedicated to the life and activity of great writer Jalil Mammadguluzadeh in April of current year. Within the event, is going to realize the organization of exhibition by memorial flat of great man-of-letter in Baku.

Note that, great ideologist Mirza Jalil’s national ideology for the first time was elucidated in press by Academician Isa Habibbayli. He has done vital works at the ANAS Institute of Literature in the direction of investigation and study of “Molla Nasraddin” journal. Currently, “Press history and publicism” department of the institute implements measures on preparation of encyclopedia of the journal.
