Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

The 1st republic scientific-practical conference “Problems of e-library formation” was held at the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS.

The conference was held by the joint organizational support of the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS, Baku State University (BSU), Azerbaijan Library Information Consortium and the Central Scientific Library (CSL) was attended by scientists and specialists from research institutes, universities and relevant government agencies of the country.

At the the event Academic Secretary of ANAS , Director of the Institute of Information Technology, Academician Rasim Alguliyev underlined the importance of the conference to discuss the formation of electronic libraries - the most pressing scientific problems of today.

R.Alguliyev delivered a report on the theme "Prospects of electronic libraries of the future generation".

Noted that, role of electronic libraries in collecting and storage, distribution and transfer to the future generations of historical and cultural, literary and art, scientific and philosophical heritage of our people is invaluable.

One of the most important tasks set in the field of expansion of opportunities of comprehensive use of scientific cultural values during dynamic development of information technologies is reduction of e-libraries in compliance with the international standards and ensuring their integration into world information space, and also formation of e-libraries of future generation.

The scientist noted that, by the State this field is given special attention, comprehensive measures are taken to improve the performance of digital libraries in the country, strengthening their logistical base, providing to-date technologies and software.

Academician spoke about done work in the field of information society in the country, widespread use of information and communication technologies in all spheres, as well as the adopted state programs.

It was noted that, communalization and integration of e-libraries for the use of web technology, linguistic, cloud computing, Big Data technologies and bibliometric techniques in libraries, as well as the creation of national e-library environment is one of the main activities in this area.

Director of CSL, PhD in Medicine Leyla Imanova spoke about the mutual integration challenges of eBooks.

At the plenary meeting reported the Head of Sector of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Latifa Mammadova, Dean of Library and Information Department, BSU Azad Gurbanov and national coordinator of Azerbaijan Library Information Consortium Jamila Yusifova.

Then the conference continued its work at the meetings of the two sections.
