On April 15, Department of Earth Sciences (DES) held next assembly at the Presidium of ANAS.

Opening the assembly Academician-Secretary of DES Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov informed on the issues of agenda.

Later on, senior researcher of ANAS Institute of Geography department of Caspian Sea problems, corresponding member of ANAS Rauf Gardashov made a presentation on "The optimal use of solar energy on scientific basis in the Republic of Azerbaijan". "Mathematical model of solar radiation" embraces scientific innovations. Thus, the zenith and azimuth angles of the sun at viewed point are found by means of high accuracy solution of Kepler’s equation, indicating the orbital movement of the Earth around the Sun. The factor of avoiding the Sun by landscape, embracing the viewed point after entering “Relief function”, is punctually taken into account, he said. 

According to the scientist, correctness of the mathematical model is being confirmed in the mountainous regions of Azerbaijan by means of experiments carried out. Distribution of solar radiation, derived from the calculations over this model, has a higher spatial and temporal resolution.

Views were exchanged on the lecture. Having considered the lecture satisfactory, DES decided to create "The Solar Energy ATLAS of Azerbaijan" web-site with the purpose of relevant bodies and physical persons to benefit from results of the studies. It was noted to match software package “The optimum choice of location and direction of the solar panels" with standards.

Afterwards, F.Gadirov brought to mind recently presentation of web-sites of the scientific departments of the Academy to the public. Said Huseynov was nominated to be in charge at DES’s website, for his sufficient knowledge and experience in this field.

Confirmation of the structure of the Oil and Gas Institute of ANAS, “Explanatory dictionary of geochemistry terms” developed by Sheki Regional Scientific Center to be recommended for publication, head laboratory assistant of “Mapping and geographic data” department Samir Velizadeh to be sent to the Istanbul Technical University of Turkey, publication state of papers of DES on journals with factor in 2015, and current issues were discussed at the assembly. Meanwhile, were made decisions on appointment of nominees to the post of scientific secretary of the Institute of Geography, including to the posts of director, deputy director and scientific secretary of Republican Seismological Survey Center.
