The First Turkological Congress, held in Baku in 1926 — one of the region’s key cultural centers — is a turning point in the history of Turkic peoples.
These remarks were made by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to Azerbaijan, Birol Akgün, during his speech at the international scientific conference titled “Founders and Lessons of the First Turkological Congress: History and Modernity”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress and held at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
The ambassador noted that significant decisions were adopted at that prestigious gathering following extensive scientific discussions on language, alphabet, shared terminology, history and culture, and that the subsequent directions for the development of the science of Turkology were determined.
Birol Akgün stated that while the Organization of Turkic States is currently implementing joint political projects, universities and academic institutions are carrying out collaborative initiatives in the fields of science and education. He emphasized that joint research conducted in the era of digitalization, artificial intelligence and technology, as well as innovative projects implemented together, will play an important role in the development of the countries of the Turkic world. He added that the motto “One nation, two states” reflects unity not only in politics, but also in the fields of science, education and culture.
