Scientists and specialists of 15 countries discussed ecological problems of the Caspian Sea

Scientific seminar took place at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics within EU “Horizon-2020” Program, project “PRIDE”.

Event dubbed “Biodiversity of the Pont-Caspian: prosperity and collapse” has been involved young scientists and specialists, representing 15 countries – England, Netherland, Spain, France, Italy, Turkey etc.

Making speech on the essence of the event, Deputy Director of Science at the Institute Dr. Earth Sciences Dadash Huseynov spoke about outputs of the studies held on this issue.

Then, general curator of the international program representative of Netherlands Frank Wesseling informed on a course of study related in environmental crisis of the Caspian Sea. It was noted that, seminar aimed to exchange experience, merge scientific capacity and improve joint studies.

Later on, lectures on ecological problems of the Caspian Sea were made by domestic and foreign scientists.

Chief departments of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics – Azerbaijani curator of the program corresponding member of ANAS Elmira Aliyeva and Dr. Geography Vagif Mammadov, director of the Institute of Geography Academician Ramiz Mammadov and leading researcher Dr. Geography Yelena Taghiyeva, including Sussane Leroy from England, Salomon Kroonenberg from Netherlands, Alexander Gogoladze from Georgia, Arthur Sands from South African Republic and others reported at the event and responded numerous questions.

After the event, a field trip was organized for scientists.
