Discussed the issues of protecting migrant workers’ rights

On May 5, TAIEX Workshop on Protecting Migrant Workers’ Rights and Encouraging Integration has launched in co-operation with the Institute of Human Rights of ANAS in Baku city.

At the event, EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Miguel Magro Gomez stressed out the importance of ongoing workshop and stated that, it aims the relevant Public Officials of Azerbaijan to become acquainted with best practices of Member States of the European Union in protecting migrant workers’ rights and encouraging their integration in order to enhance effective practices in this area in Azerbaijan.

CEO of the Knowledge Foundation Ogtay Samadov appreciated above mentioned issue as one of the pressing issues in the world: “Special attention should be paid to this problem. The high level of migration management and protection of the migrants’ rights are highly appreciated by international organizations. Migration policies are factors that directly affect the country's security. Ensuring security is essential to educate the population. Associates of the State Migration Service and migration bodies with regions carry out enlightenment events in the regions joint with non-governmental organizations, and actively effort in educating the public in the field of migration.”

Delegate of Presidium Administration of ANAS Dr. Juridical Sciences Rasim Aghasiyev informed about implemented events in provision of migrant workers’ rights as well as state-of-the-art in the country.

It was noted that the economic reforms carried out in Azerbaijan, and other international agreements signed by the world's leading companies and the implementation of projects has led to an increase in the rate of labor migration: "According to the latest official information from the State Migration Service, the number of applicants by foreigners and stateless persons for registration in the Republic of Azerbaijan are figured 50,082 people. Foreigners and stateless persons in Azerbaijan for temporary and permanent residence permits have been appealed 3800 people”.

International event were listened lectures in following topics: Worker migrants’ rights in Azerbaijan: state-of-the-art condition”, “International protection of worker migrants: International Convention on protection of all worker migrants and their family members”, "Protection of the worker migrants’ rights, integration by involving to employment” etc.
