Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

ANAS Nakhchivan Branch held a scientific-practical conference “Azerbaijan People Republic – the first democratic republic in the East”.

Event, organizing on the occasion of 98th anniversary of Azerbaijan People Republic, was opened by chairman of the Branch Academician Ismayil Hajiyev, who highlighted the 28 May, 1918 – establishment of the Azerbaijan People Republic, as a remarkable event in the history. On that day, “Independence Declamation”, which approved in Tiflis, had even strengthened freedom will of our nation.

It was noted that, being the first republic in the Muslim East - Azerbaijan People Republic has launched the beginning of a great phase in the history of Azerbaijan, which re-gained its independence at the end of XX century. No coincidence that, our people celebrate this honorable date as a “Republic Day”.

Having gained independence again, Azerbaijan could save its sovereignty. National leader Heydar Aliyev done decisive fulfillments in protecting of statehood, reinforcing of independence and justified social-political stability, was noted.

In the conference, a leading researcher of the Institute of History, Ethnography and Archeology PhD in History Musa Guliyev lectured on “Establishment of Azerbaijan People Republic and its activity in national state-building”.

Lecture spotlights that within a short period of activity Azerbaijan People Republic made vital steps in emerging of management principles, meanwhile, entered the Muslim and Turkic worlds as a first parliamentary republic.

Conference, in which was analyzed the role and position of the Azerbaijan People Republic in the independence history, has been accomplished by Academician Ismayil Hajiyev.
