It is known that, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an order on presenting State Prizes in Science and Literature for 2016, on May 26.

Under order, scientists of the Institute of Geography – director Academician Ramiz Mammadov, Deputy Director of Science corresponding member of ANAS Prof. Elbrus Alizadeh, PhD in Geography Maharram Hasanov and Dr. Geography Zakir Eminov were deserved to the State Prize in Science for their tree-volume monograph “Geography of the Republic of Azerbaijan”.

At the official reception organized on the occasion of Republic Day, President Ilham Aliyev presented state awards to cavaliers on May 27.

The three-volume monograph "Geography of the Republic of Azerbaijan" which is a result of many years' work and not having analog in the Azerbaijani geographical science is one of the most valuable achievements of the Azerbaijani geographical science.

Volume I entitled "Physical Geography of the Republic of Azerbaijan", which contains numerous maps, graphs and charts, based on the latest scientific and theoretical and methodological views considered geography, orography, history of research, geology, minerals, paleogeography, geomorphology, climate, inland waters, soil, vegetation, country landscapes, as well as the characteristics of the Caspian sea.

Volume II -"Economic, social and political geography of the Republic of Azerbaijan" dedicated to the preparation of proposals and recommendations regarding the study of economic, political and socio-demographic problems of the country, their causes and ways of eliminating.

Volume III -"Regional geography of the Republic of Azerbaijan" examines the physical and economic geography of the regions of the Azerbaijan Republic and their development prospects. At the same time are considered solutions and the implementation of economic and geographical issues arising out of the State program on development of regions, as well as problems to be solved in connection with the food security of the population and sustainable economic development. The book also analyzes the economic potential of the regions of the republic, are listed industries that are considered appropriate for further development.

Further, expressing gratitude on behalf of the winners the country President Ilham Aliyev for the awarding of the State Prize the work of scientists, geographers, Academician Ramiz Mammadov stressed that, he always creates ample conditions for the development of science and education in the country.
