Presidium of ANAS held a next seminar-training of the II Special Department.

Meeting with participation of headquarter chiefs of the institute and organizations of Academy was opened by head of department Eldar Guliyev, who brought to mind the issues envisaged in the plan.

Eldar Guliyev stated that, studying, protecting and efficiently using ecology and natural resources of Azerbaijan are the most pressing issues that facing scientists and researchers along with government agencies. Chief department stressed out the rich flora of the country, natural plants to spread over different ecological zones and geographical conditions, including scientific and economic aspects of their usage opportunities as food, medicines and raw materials. He noted that, over 2500 species of 4,500 wild plants, which spread in the country, contain many useful features for our economy, so scientists hold experiments in different regions in these fields and organize expeditions.

Eldar Guliyev made a statement by Nasraddin Tusi at the end of his speech: “The mystery of the wonders of nature could be bestowed only by power of science”.

Then, Deputy Director of Science of the Institute of Botany Dr. Biology Eldar Novruzov delivered a lecture “Azerbaijan flora as a guardian of health”. A comprehensive and deeply learning of Azerbaijan flora has been started since 30s of the last century. Key aim of these studies, carrying out at the institute, is revealing the sources of raw materials, providing economy of the country, especially protection of human health, along with solving theoretic issues of Botany science in this field, noted E.Novruzov.

As a result of study of dye plants in the country, 123 plant species used in textile industry were found. In 1970, its figure restricted, but now the figure is more than 1,200 species, he said.

Medicinal plants have been studied extensively: "During pre and post war were carried out extensive studies on the comprehensive study of medicinal plants. As a result, a full list of the medicinal plants used in Azerbaijan folk medicine and scientific medicine was developed; pharmacological studies were carried out and acquired results were focused on war and human health. According to the analytical examination of papers on pharmacopeia and pharmaceutical and chemical research of plants in different countries, 1547 species of medicinal plants were identified in Azerbaijan flora. 600 species of them are nectar plants, 400 of honey producing, over 200 of toxic, 800 of feed plants, including 200 species of them with forage value of vitamin, and more than 300 herbal species have been studied,” said Eldar Novruzov.

The scientist stressed that, in the field of plant resources research focuses on the protection of human health.As a result of the lack of certain hormones of the adrenal gland body is exposed to arthritis, arthritis, padagre, rheumatism and others have severe consequences inflammatory diseases. At the beginning of the last century it has been established that, in treatment and prevention of these diseases usage of the steroid substances received from adrenal gland by their synthesis with such medical supplies as a cortisone, a hydrocortisone, etc., brings positive results.

Speaking of biochemical research, scientists reported that determined the time of collection of these materials with drugs, food, dye plants, as well as the environmental factors that affect them. Carry out scientific study of plant utilization.

Eldar Novruzov noted that, as a result of the realized new effective technological research have been developed, competitive technology for natural food dyes, coumarin, sesquiterpenes lactones, anthocyanins, flavonoids, biologically active plant oils.

He noted that, along with the species composition, chemistry, biochemistry of plants, supplies also studied commercial plants - licorice, rose hips, buckthorn, mint, thyme, hawthorn and other useful plants.

The next issue discussed at meeting was the execution of the Order of ANAS President on "Preparation of Plans of Civil Defense at ANAS Scientific Institutions" dated February 22, 2016.

The chief of the II Special Department Eldar Guliyev has informed attendees on a condition of execution of the order. He said that, in all the scientific institutions of the Civil Defense plans were drawn up in accordance with the order and agreed with the regional organizations.

In conclusion, were held discussions on training for leading staff of CD at ANAS institutions and organizations , the results of the first half of 2016, as well as current issues.
