“IX Olympiad in computer science" among students held

At the joint organizational support of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies, Institute of Control Systems, Gafgaz University, the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS, the Lyceum "Istek" was carried out "the IX Olympiad in Informatics” - İLO2016.

Organized regularly since 2007 the competition aimed at improving knowledge and skills of secondary school students in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT). At this year's Olympiad was represented by 89 projects by category "Programming", "Short Film", "Animation" and "Robot", of which 32 projects, estimated by experts, reached the final. In addition, for the first time in the competition category "AlgoKod" (algorithmic coding) category has been added and 21 students competed in the final round.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Olympiad, held at the University of "Gafgaz" University vice rector for Public Relations, Associate Professor Natig Pasha stressed the importance of holding such competitions. He reported that the main purpose of the Olympiad - increase the interest of secondary school students in the ICT sector, help to gain experience by ensuring the application of theoretical knowledge in the field in practice, and to create conditions for professional training in the field of ICT in our country.

Noting that the development of the ICT sector in our country is one of the priorities of the state policy, the Deputy Director of the Technology Institute of Information Technology of ANAS, PhD in Technology Rashid Alakbarov brought to the attention, that in this area a number of laws and government programs made purposeful work aimed at the introduction of modern technologies, as well as the development of network infrastructure. Speaking about the importance of training of highly qualified personnel in this field, he emphasized the importance of holding such competitions among students in terms of increasing their interest in the field of ICT.

Then, Associate Professor of Baku State University Ramin Mahmudzadeh talking about the significance of the Olympiad, in terms of teaching computer science in secondary and higher education institutions in order to prepare the country's highly skilled, with extensive scientific and practical experience and innovative thinking training on information technology, especially computer engineers and software developers.

Praising the work of the Project Olympiad in Computer Science, a senior researcher at the Institute of Control Systems, PhD in Engineering Samir Rustamov, he said that the projects presented here are an indication of education in the country of talented young people with high scientific potential.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of the Gafgaz, Professor Khalil Ismayilov noted the importance of such competitions that support the development of young people, students and wished success in his future activities.

Then the prepared projects were demonstrated by students to the Olympiad jury. Chief Engineer of the project of the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS, PhD in Engineering Shafagat Mahmudova and director of the Department of Education, Dr. Philosophy in Technology Farhad Yusifov participated in the jury for the "Programming" category. The presented projects were evaluated according to the criteria laid down for each category separately.

Participants of “AlgoKod" category was entrusted to draw up a program of 10 algorithmic problems (in C, C ++, Java, Pascal və ya Pyton). Solutions of the problems have been verified by automatic PC2-9.2.4 assessment system.

The student of the Baku European Lyceum Huseyn Hajiyev on category "Programming", student of the school №3 Rufat Mammadov on "Short film" category, students of the Lyceum Lankaran "Istek" Ali Usubov and Sadig Gurbanov on "Animation" category, a student of the Baku Ankara School Ikram Gabiyev on category "Robot" and student of the school №150 Elgun Jabrailzadeh on "AlgoKod" category were awarded the first place.

Finally, the winners were awarded the valuable prizes, medals and certificates of Institute of Control Systems and Information Technology of ANAS, Gafgaz University, Lyceum "Istek" Company "Aesthete" and "NAPCAR".
