One of the priorities, implementing in the development of non-oil sector in Azerbaijan, is the innovative projects applied to the agriculture. Scientific support is given to the ongoing sector by our scientists. In this respect, urgent studies are carried out and learnt world experience at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. The taken measures at the strongholds of academy in the regions are one of the mentioned projects.
With the purpose to get acquainted experiences conducted and done works, President of ANAS Academician Akif Alizadeh, Vice-President Academician Ibrahim Guliyev, chief of the Department of Affairs Fatali Abdullayev visited the strongholds of Kurdamir, Agsu, Agdash and Ujar. In advance, delegation inspected field conditions and crop production at the Karrar stronghold of the Institute of Botany in Kurdamir.
The 132 acres of land here covers grain and barley fields, while fruits, vegetables and forage crops have grown in drought-resistant saline soils. Though these crops were grown for the purpose of experience, they are intended for development of agriculture in the Kura-Araz lowland. Currently, 9.8 tons of barley were harvested from area of 4.1 hectares, in addition, is expected to yield a considerable amount of grain.
It was noted that up to now has been used only a small part of 132 hectares of land, 103 hectares of land currently being used. The desolate land will be commissioned in the next year.
Then, Agsu stronghold was visited as well. Akif Gadirov, head of the stronghold of Institute of Zoology, stated that, territory with total land area of 157 hectares, was envisaged for development of farming besides agriculture.
Barley and wheat crops were planted in 80 hectares of area. Also, 15 adders are kept here for scientific experiment.
Premises from 1990 locate at the stronghold, while they also come in handy as soon as possible and in a state of repair. These buildings are flexible for conducting research, including for the establishment of poultry farms.
Later, was familiar with the activities of Agdash scientific research base of the Institute of Genetic Resources. Chief of the Base Mabud Rasulov informed about experiments conducted.
He noted that 23 hectares provided for collection of genetic resources fund, gene fund of stone and seedy fruits, and to preserve local varieties of fruit. Meanwhile, research work is done by the institute over vegetable, fruit, cotton, and forage crops.
Director of the Institute of Soil Science and Agro Chemistry, Dr. Agrarian Sciences Alovsat Guliyev drew attention to the agriculture-related innovations.
During the visit, was told to scholars and experts working at the stronghold, administrative buildings, and material-technical base was reviewed and discussed the status of implementation of tasks, given appropriate instructions. The organization of laboratories for the purpose of scientific research has been proposed.
