On June 23, Presidium of ANAS hosted for the next assembly of the Department of Social Sciences of ANAS (DSS).

Opening the assembly Acting Academician-Secretary of the Department corresponding member of ANAS Nargiz Akhundova drew to the attention the issues of agenda, especially focused on the first issue – creation of Carpet study Sector attached to the DSS.

N. Akhundova noted that, investigating Azerbaijan's carpet weaving which is of ancient history and rich traditions in detail on the basis of practical and theoretical studies, exploring the history and customs of the Azerbaijan dyeing art, modern application prospects of these customs, including studying Azerbaijani carpets and carpet weaving traditions of other Turkic peoples in comparison are important issues. Taking into account mentioned issues the creation of Carpet Study Sector was necessary. “Azer-Ilme” ltd. chaired by Vidadi Muradov has been considered a key base for the Sector as a scientific research laboratory.

Then N.Akhundova gave information about the establishment of the Russian and English series of Humanities and Social Sciences in Journal "Lectures" of ANAS. Underscoring the difficulties in the field of promotion and dissemination nationally and abroad articles dealing with important scientific results of the humanities and social sciences in Azerbaijan, as well as citations of scientific papers of scientists in the area, N.Akhundova said that, given these gaps, there is a need establishing a series of Humanities and Social Sciences in journal "Lectures" of ANAS. According to her, the establishment of such a publication will be made known works of Azerbaijani scientists on an international scale, as well as the increased number of scientific references to their research work in the country and abroad.

The meeting also addressed the issues of the transfer of employees of a number of scientific institutions of ANAS Institute of History of Science and the Caucasian Institute, celebrating the 90th anniversary of Aslan Aslanov, the 80th anniversary of corresponding member Veli Aliyev, as well as amendments to the structure of the Institute of Oriental Studies.

Finally, they discussed a number of staff issues.
