Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

M. Abbasov was born on July 31, 1926 in Baku. In 1949 he ended the specialty "Oil-field Case" of oil-field faculty of the Azerbaijani industrial institute (modern Azerbaijani state university of oil and the industry).

In 1953 he received the academic degree of PhD in Engineering, in 1962 - Doctors of Engineering, and in 1965 -Professor. In 1968 elected as the corresponding member of ANAS, 1980 - the full member, and in 1984 - the corresponding member of Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

In 1964-1971 he held a position of the deputy director on scientific work of Institute of problems of deep oil and gas fields, 1971-2003 – directors, 1976-1990 – academician-secretary of Department of sciences on Earth of Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, 1990-1997 - Vice-President of ANAS. After inclusion of Institute of problems of deep oil and gas fields in structure of Institute of geology M. Abbasov continued to direct this scientific direction.

In 1991-1992 M. Abbasov elected the member of the Presidential Council of the Azerbaijan Republic, and also the state secretary. Besides, it was elected the deputy of the Baku Council of two convocations, the People's Deputy of the USSR of the last convocation. He was a member of the International academy of Sciences of geoecology and the International academy of Sciences of the nature and society, the honourable doctor of the All-Russian research institution of geological opening. In 1982-1992 I directed the Academic council on problems of development of oil and gas fields of Academy of Sciences of the USSR. M. Abbasov was the first president of the American Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Creation and development of Department of sciences about Earth of National academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan have matched the period of large-scale development of the oil and gas industry in Azerbaijan. Priority activities of Department of sciences about Earth were determined according to features of development of the leading industry of a national economy. In such conditions in the world of science of Azerbaijan the known school of oil geologists which the academician M. Abbasov treats was created.

M. Abbasov became the prominent scientist in the field of the theory and practice of development of oil and gas fields, and also the founder and the head of school of sciences in this sphere. He repeatedly predicted the new perspective directions of oil science. The Academician also became one of the first intelligence agents of a number of hydro carbonic fields in Azerbaijan.

At school of sciences of M. Abbasov the big group of highly qualified specialists in the field of the theory and practice of development of oil and gas deposits, an underground hydraulic gas dynamics, geologic-geophysical researches, new technologies of oil and gas production, physical and chemical hydrodynamics, the capillary and superficial phenomena, calculus mathematics, programming, optimization, industry economy, etc. has grown up. Creation of theoretical bases is also connected with his name.

Here theoretical bases of development of oil and gas fields of various type have been created, hydrogasdynamic bases are enhanced, new methods of determination of technological indicators of development are offered, the basic principles of designing are developed. With complete accounting of natural and technology factors and nonequilibrium filtering new highly effective interpretative methods of results of hydrodynamic researches of wells have been developed. Besides new methods of increase of oil recovery of layers and productivities of wells have been developed and enhanced.

The computing methods providing high precision in case of calculation of borehole static and dynamic pressure of movement of natural gas and gas-condensate mixes in wells have been enhanced. The methodology of mathematical modeling of various processes of oil and gas production, development of economic-mathematical models of a process improvement of decision making in case of implementation of multiple and multiple-factor projects of development of oil and gas resources, etc. has been developed. On the basis of features of abnormally high pressures and a complex of petrophysical and geophysical information scientific bases and methods of research of forecasting have been established.

IPGNGM has made the significant contribution to creation of such new scientific directions as development of difficult hydrocarbonic fields, mathematical modeling in oil geology, creation of geological models of fields, forecasting of features of natural reservoirs of oil and gas, development of economic-mathematical modeling of processes of optimization and development of oil and gas resources, creation of the three-dimensional mathematical theory of stability of wells, theoretical bases of three-dimensional nonclassical multicomponent seismicity, etc. Now, similar researches continue departments of Section of development of oil and gas fields of Institute of geology and geophysics of ANAS.

Being the far-sighted scientist, M. Abbasov predicted development of the new perspective directions of oil science. He has also done a great job on selection and sending to the former USSR and foreign countries of talented young specialists. As a result of it in the republic highly qualified specialists in such scientific directions as physical and chemical hydrodynamics, forecasting, oil economy, optimization and others have been prepared.

He was an author over 660 published scientific works, including 23 monographs, 43 inventions and 6 patents. Under the leadership of the Academician Abbasov 21 doctors of science and 40 doctors of philosophy have been prepared. It had important merits in development of oil science in Azerbaijan and the USSR, his scientific creativity has won respect and outside Azerbaijan.

In 1982 M. Abbasov has been awarded with the State prize of Azerbaijan, and in 1985 - the Award of a name of the academician I. M. Gubkin. Besides, it has been awarded ranks "The honored worker of science" of Azerbaijan, "The honourable oil industry worker of the USSR", "The honorary employee of the gas industry of the USSR".

Full member of ANAS, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Teymur Mitat Abbasov died in 2012. His memory will always remain bright in the hearts of his friends, students and the set-Petroleum Geologists.
