At the regular meeting of the Presidium of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, which took place on 21 September, was listened the report of Vice President of ANAS, director of the Oil and Gas Institute, Academician Ibrahim Guliyev "Coal Science 2030: vision into the future."
In its report, the scientist has listed the most important strategic directions of scientific research of the Institute of Oil and Gas of ANAS. Academician Ibrahim Guliyev noted that the current search for oil and gas fields is conducted at a depth of 7-14 km. This has created the need for adaptation of modern geophysical methods to study at a depth of field.
The scientist stressed that one of the important tasks is to conduct fundamental research for the study of intelligent oil and gas fields. He pointed out that to solve the problems existing in this field, it is necessary to apply new methods, based on supercomputer technologies.
The speaker also said that one of the perspective directions in the development of oil and gas science is the study of alternative sources of hydrocarbons and gas hydrates - heavy oil, shale oil and gas dissolved in groundwater gases. Ibrahim Guliyev noted that in 2030 Azerbaijan can become a world leader in the use of completely new hydrocarbon raw materials: "For several years, scientists of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS together with German colleagues conducted a long-term thermal monitoring of hydrocarbon gases released from the mud volcanoes of Azerbaijan. The results will form the basis for the creation of recoverable hydrocarbon system. "
Stressing that in the future one of the main activities of the Institute of Oil and Gas is the study of economy of the oil industry and forecasting its development, Academician informed that ANAS is already underway forecasting the development of various industries, including compiled and tested mathematical models of the dynamics of changes in oil prices and gas based on market requirements.
After listening to the report, discussions took place. By the adopted resolution, research priorities of the Institute of Oil and Gas of ANAS were defined as follows: geophysical and geochemical prospecting for oil at great depth, fundamental research of intellectual fields, the scientific study of deposits of gas hydrates, the recovery of oil and gas reserves in the mud volcanoes, geological and chemical research of shale oil and gas production, the study of the economy of the oil industry and the geo-ecological problems. Also in the resolution reflected issues such as equipping the institute according to the long-term plan with new equipment, software and database, etc.
