Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Interdisciplinary sector of the Institute of Physics has held a seminar on theme "Studies on optical micro resonators for photonics, optical wave conductors and glasses doped with rare-earth elements”.

The lecturer was an associate of the Institute of Applied Physics “Nello Carrara” under Italian National Research Council – Dr. Stefano Pelli.

Opening the seminar sector chief, Deputy Director of Science Academician Javad Abdinov stated that, seminar aims to carry out joint studies and academic exchanges via scientific centers of Italy.

Seminar continued by speech of Professor Ogtay Taghiyev, who is in charge of Baku Branch of the Moscow State University, and a chief laboratory of Non-equilibrium Physics of Electron Processes in Semiconductors at the institute. He said that, under agreement between ANAS and National Research Council, grant project dubbed “Sulphide materials doped with rare-earth elements for white light acquisition and energy overturning” has won.

Currently, solid-state lighting (SSL) is developing rapidly and every 10 years the light emission efficiency of devices is growing up to 10 times with a reduction of expenses, he noted.

According to him, SSL do not promise only high efficiency. With proper selection of power sources and radiating luminophore it is relatively easy to regulate the appropriate color temperature.

In closing, Dr. Stefano Pelli delivered a lecture on topic.

Lecture was discussed, questions responded.

Within the visit to Azerbaijan, Italian scientist has been invited to Baku Branch of Moscow State University on behalf M.V.Lomonosov as well. Professor S.Pelli got acquainted with tuition process at the newly opened Physics faculty and its laboratories. As for him, laboratories of the Baku Branch of Moscow State University were equipped with modern equipment and all the conditions are here for students to carry out work experience.
