Armenian scientist’s provocation prevented at the conference in St. Petersburg

Azerbaijani scientists attended and made a presentation at the 2nd International “İCON II” conference, which was held September 26-29 in St. Petersburg, the State Hermitage Museum.

The 2nd International Conference, was devoted to the eastern numismatics “İCON II”. The event was announced by Alexander Akobyan provocative report on "Monetary business khanate Eastern Armenia (Yerevan, Nakhchivan, Ganja and Karabakh) in 1747-1827 years". The attempt of the Armenian side once again assigns historical value and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan caused a wide resonance and fair public discontent.

Taking into account the importance and relevance of the participation of Azerbaijani scientists in the conference, along with Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and Embassy of Azerbaijan in Russia and Consulate General of our country in St. Petersburg, also sent a letter to the Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky is asking for assistance in accreditation of Azerbaijani scientists.

It was decided to send a delegation to the conference as part of the head of ANAS Department of Numismatics Department of Azerbaijan National History Museum, Doctor of historical sciences, Professor Ali Rajabli and senior researcher of the Institute of Law and Human Rights of ANAS, director of the Caucasus Center of History, Associate Professor Rizvan Huseynov.

The Consulate General of Azerbaijan held a meeting with the head of diplomatic mission Sultan Gasimov, where they discussed issues related to the participation and performance of the representatives of ANAS the conference.

On the opening day of the conference the director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky took Azerbaijani scientists and expressed satisfaction with the fact that Azerbaijan is represented at the event. M. Piotrovsky praised the contribution of Azerbaijani scientists in the development of numismatics and other disciplines and he stressed the need for enhanced cooperation between the Hermitage and the Azerbaijani scientific community. On the first day of the conference it was decided to appoint Professor Ali Rajabli the chairman at a meeting. At the insistence of the Azerbaijani delegation to the original name of the Armenian professor A. Akobyan’s report was removed from the activities of the program, in the text of the report has been amended, the words and sayings of the "Eastern Armenia" removed from the text.

On the final day of the conference, Professor Ali Rajabli spoke on "Coinage and monetary circulation in the Azerbaijani khanates of XVIII-XIX centuries.” Speech by Azerbaijani scientist radically changed the course of the conference, and stopped trying to spread the regular Armenian lies within the framework of the international conference.
