Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

On October 12, an event dedicated to 90th anniversary of scientist studying Safavid, corresponding member of ANAS Ogtay Afandiyev, was held at the main building of ANAS by organization of ANAS Institute of History named after A.A.Bakikhanov.

Opening the event director of the institute, corresponding member of ANAS Yagub Mahmudov stated that, being in charge at the Azerbaijan history of medieval ages department for many years Ogtay Afandiyev decently has represented history science in a lot of countries of the world. Be not afraid of pan-Turkism fear he has devoted a separate monograph to the history of Azerbaijan Safavid. The Safavid was aptly proved as an Azerbaijan state for the first time by him.

O.Afandiyev had crucial role in training of patriot historians.

Then, Academician-Secretary of the Division of Social Sciences, corresponding member of ANAS Nargiz Akhundova noted that, international community has heard a number of truth from O.Afandiyev and read his articles.

It was stated that, O.Afandiyev’s several studies have been translated into various languages, and these works are still referenced by world’s celebrate scientists.

O.Afandiyev touched upon difficult problems of XV-XVIII centuries of Azerbaijan history – social-economic, political history, international ties, including publication of sources in Eastern and European languages, historical-geographical issues.

At the event, chief of Source study and history study department, Professor Shahin Farzaliyev delivered a lecture on “Notable orientalist-scientist Ogtay Afandiyev”, Deputy Director of the institute of science PhD in History, Assoc. Prof. Tofig Najafli on “Decisive researcher of Azerbaijan Safavid state Ogtay Afandiyev” and leading fellow of the institute PhD in History Kheyirbey Gasimov “Ogtay Afandiyev stage in Azerbaijan Safavid study”.

It was noted that, rich scientific legacy left by scientist will live forever, serve to our nation and science and delivered from generation to generation.
