Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Implementing at the initiative of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, 2nd Azerbaijan Science Festival continued in Sumgait on November 2.

The event, taking place at Sumgait city State Drama Theatre, was opened by Deputy Head of Sumgait city Exectutive Power, chief Department of Social-Political and Humanitarian Affairs Teymur Samadov, who greeted the guests on behalf of city management. He highlighted the holding of event in Sumgait as a remarkable phenomena and made speech on President Ilham Aliyev’s care and attention to science, his reforms and successes of Sumgait city in science and education.

Later on, Academician-Secretary of the Division of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS Academician Ahliman Amiraslanov spoke on the importance of the event and congratulated the participants on this occasion. Academician said that festival aims to deliver latest achievements to a wide public and draw the interest of youth in scientific-research works.

Deputy Executive Director of “Azerikimya” Production Union Vugar Karimov highlighted the event as a dialogue between science and public. Then he briefed about activities of “Azerikimya”, which had a vital role in development of country’s economy.

Acting director of the Institute of Polymer Materials, corresponding member of ANAS Bakhtiyar Mammadov told about development way of the institute, and its achievements. He also brought to mind the application of studies conducted in the plants, locating onto industrial zone of Sumgait and several enterprises of the CIS.

Afterwards, rector of Sumgait State University Prof. Elkhan Huseynov reported at the event and stressed out that issues intended in the National Strategy such as protection of scientific-technical capacity, training of highly qualified staff in the sphere of science and education, has set forth great responsibility before highest schools and research institutions. Professor also touched upon relations of the University via institutes of ANAS and specially underlined the role of Science and Training Center “Chemistry of high-molecular compounds and Ecology”, which created attached to ANAS IPM with the purpose of increasing the level of academic cooperation.

Artistic part of the event was continued with performance of U.S. “Acidic Band”, and a concert program with participation of soloist Farmin Ahmadli from Azerbaijan State Opera and Ballet Theatre and others.

Then, tours were organized to the Heydar Aliyev Center and Sumgait Techno Park.

Festival has run with lectures, organizing at the Sumgait State University.

Note that, 2nd Science Festival is carried out by initiative of ANAS, and organized by Ministry of Education, Ministry of Communications and High Information Technologies, Baku city Executive Power, Knowledge Fund under the President of Azerbaijan, Science Development Fund under the President of Azerbaijan, the US Embassy and the Moscow State University. Festival will run on November 4 in Sheki and November 5 in Ganja.
