A meeting of the Division of Earth Sciences

A meeting of the Division of Earth Sciences

On November 17, the regular meeting of the Division of Earth Sciences of ANAS was held. Opening the event Academician-Secretary of the Department, Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov introduced the issues on the agenda.

At the event, the head of Geotermia department of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS, Doctor of geological-mineralogical sciences Abdulvahab Mukhtarov made a report on "The scientific results and aspects of the use of high-precision observations of temperature in the earth's crust." The scientist noted that the first temperature measurement in the territory of Azerbaijan was held in 1870. And 1900-ies, they got their widespread development.

Mukhtarov said that earlier in geological and geophysical studies that carried out in the territory of Azerbaijan, the accuracy of temperature measurements did not exceed 0.1-0.5 ° C, and only after 1970. During the expeditions organized by the Laboratory of Geotermia at the Institute of Geology of the Academy of Sciences and the Laboratory of Geothermal Institute of Earth Physics (Moscow), in several wells precision temperature measurements were carried out: "As a result of measurements observed a major breakthrough in the field of Geothermal; an opportunity to explore the "thermal memory" of rocks and by geothermal measurements investigate paleoclimatic change."

The speaker noted that during the paleoclimate research method besides geothermal measurement accuracy requirements are specific to such factors as geological conditions, well design, spacing, temperature measurement, etc. Despite the wide spread of this method in the world, paleoclimatic research in the Caucasus was held only three wells in Azerbaijan. Mukhtarov noted that during 1870-1970-ies, climate average temperature has increased here by about 1-2 ° C, and it is in good agreement with the results obtained in other regions. The scientist noted that the results of studies in this area are reflected in the articles published in foreign and domestic journals.

After discussions and questions were responded and the report was approved by the decision of the Division of Earth Sciences, the relevant regulations were adopted.

Then, it is considering the amendments to the structure of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics. It was decided to establish Public Relations Department and the Department of Petrophysics was partially renamed the Department of Experimental Petrophysics.

At the event, the decision was made to withdraw the Natural History Museum from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics and its structure.

Next on the agenda was the question ovnesenii predlozheniyaprisvoit streets of Baku city named after academician Midhat Abasov and Hasan Ahmadov. It was decided to appeal on this issue in the relevant bodies of direction.

In conclusion, some staff and current issues were discussed.
