The Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) is the organism, which genotype was artificially changed by means of methods of genetic engineering. This definition can be applied to plants, animals and microorganisms. Genetic changes are, as a rule, made in the scientific or economic purposes. Genetic modification differs purposeful change of a genotype of an organism unlike casual, characteristic for natural and artificial mutational process.

Main type of genetic modification now is use of transgenic for creation of transgenic organisms.

In agriculture and the food industry GMO are meant only as the organisms modified by introduction into their genome of one or several transgenic. In this regard in the next meeting of the Presidium of ANAS director of the Human Rights Institute, PhD in Law Ayten Mustafayeva and head of the department of bioethics and health law Vugar Mammadov made a report on “The right to health, genetically modified foods and their legal settlement “and told about the results of the research. It was noted that cultivation of genetically modified products (GMO) and their use in food is accompanied by a number of risks. Ecologists are disturbed by those inevitable changes in ecosystems to which will lead careless emission in the nature of genetically changed organisms. The European Union set GMO limit as a part of products in 0,9%. In the report it is emphasized that in Azerbaijan still there are no the laws limiting use of GMO of products. For the purpose of elimination of these shortcomings of Institute on human rights the actions directed on legal regulation of import and distribution of GMO of products in Azerbaijan were investigated, and also laws of a number of the countries of the world in the field are studied. The report was approved by Presidium. It is recommended to expand conducted researches and to organize preparation of highly qualified personnel.
