Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

Today, at the main building of ANAS was held the ceremony of farewell with a prominent scientist who made a great contribution in the field of computer science in the country, honored worker of science, the chairman of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Academician Arif Shafayat oglu Mehdiyev.

Event was attended by governmental officials, MPs of Milli Majlis, scientific dignity and public figures.

Colleagues, friends, acquaintances of the academician Arif Mehtiyev, the famous scientists and cultures a never-ending stream went to the academy building to pay the prominent scientist a last honors.

At the bottom of the coffin was a wreath on behalf of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Opening mourning event, President of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizadeh noted that, the scientific community of Azerbaijan has suffered a heavy loss. Academician A. Alizadeh spoke about the fruitful scientific activity with important achievements in the field of computer science in our country of Academician Arif Mehdiyev, as well as its contribution to the development of Azerbaijani science. It was noted that, in the face of of Academician A.Mehtiyev Azerbaijani science has lost a great scientist-informatics.

Having marked that, scientific research of Arif Mehtiyev is tightly connected to physics of semiconductors and the space information sphere, the head of ANAS added that, the scientist's merits in the field of creation of new technologies in this sphere and formations of scientific concepts meet with approval. His researches made a special contribution to formation and development of the new direction in science - space informatics.

It was noted that, A.Mehtiyev is the author of fundamental works on studying of Earth from space by means of various technical means. Under its management within long years research and project works on receipt, transfer, conversion, transformation and the presentation of space information were carried out. The scientist was the organizer and the head of a number of space scientific experiments.

The head of ANAS emphasized that, Academician A.Mehdiyev was the author more than 300 scientific works, successfully combining scientific creativity with pedagogical activities, for many years as professor of the Azerbaijani oil academy and Academy of aircraft of Azerbaijan took active part in training of highly qualified personnel. Under his lidership were prepared dozens of doctors of science in Azerbaijan.

It was noted that, scientific and scientific-organizational activities of Academician Arif Mehdiyev were highly appreciated by the state. For merits in development of Azerbaijani science, he was awarded one of the highest awards of the independent Republic of Azerbaijan orders "Shohrat" and "Sharaf". The rich scientific heritage of the famous scientist and organizer of science teacher skillful and sympathetic person A.Mehtiev will live forever, to serve our people, our science, and passed on from generation to generation.

Speaking at the farewell ceremony Academician Isa Habibbeyli, Javad Abdinov, Telman Aliyev, Urkhan Alakbarov spoke about rich scientific activity and high moral qualities of of Academician A.Mehtieva, expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased.

Speaking on behalf of the family of the deceased brother Ulvi Mehdiyev expressed his deep appreciation for the respect and reverence for the memory of the scientist.

Light memory of the scientist, his rich scientific heritage will live forever, to serve our people, science, to pass from father to son.

Academician was buried in the second Alley of Honor.
