ANAS Republican Seismological Service Center held a joint meeting of ANAS Department of Earth Sciences and RCSS Scientific and Technical Council. The meeting was attended by ANAS Vice-President, Academician Ibrahim Guliyev, Academician-Secretary of Department of Earth Sciences, Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov, heads of scientific institutions and organizations, members of the department, RCSS management, as well as scientists and experts, wich is a scientific member of Technical Council on December 27, 2016.

At the meeting, chaired by Academician-Secretary of ANAS Department of Earth Sciences, Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov, ANAS General Director of RCSS, corresponding member of ANAS Gurban Yetirmishli presented the annual report of the scientific and industrial work carried out at the center in 2016.

Speaking on the progress of scientific and production departments of ANAS RCSS work and the results obtained, Director General noted that, during 2016 42 seismic stations installed on the territory of the republic, 9905 earthquake (35 permanent and 7 stationary) have been registered. In areas adjacent to Azerbaijan by RCSS were processed data on 7866 earthquake in the country - 4365, the world - 2039. Within Azerbaijan 91 earthquakes measuring 3 points have been recorded. From them 18 were notable. On August 1, 2016 in the territory of the republic – in Imishli there was the most powerful earthquake measuring 5.6 points.

As for the activity of a seismic point of view, General Director drew attention to the Caspian Sea. Noting observed in the years 2014-2016 in the Caspian Sea increase in activity with seismic point of view, G.Etirmishli also spoke about the impact of seismic events that occurred in the oil and gas fields, and the reduction of oil production. The General Director in his speech also brought to attention that for the year in the RCSS held important geophysical, geochemical and geodynamic studies.

Also were presented the results regarding the issues the center of cooperation with foreign countries and international seismological organizations, networking with public and prompt communication to the public of information on the occurrence of earthquakes, as well as personnel training. The meeting also presented important scientific results achieved by the results of scientific research in the RCSS in the course of the year.

Noted with appreciation the report and the work done in the RCSS, Academician Parviz Mammadov brought to the attention of those present, the center is properly fulfilled its tasks. In his speech he also touched on the importance of the scientific activities of young cadres. The discussion was attended by academician Arif Ismailzade, corresponding member of ANAS Telman Salavatov, Academician Vasif Babazadeh

Summing up, Academician-Secretary of ANAS Department of Earth Sciences, Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov noted that, RCSS fully complete the task, and praised the center's annual report. The report was adopted unanimously..
