ANAS Institute Linguistics after Nasimi held action devoted to 21 February - International Mother Language Day on February 20.
Opening the event, Director of the Institute of Linguistics, corresponding member of ANAS Mohsun Nagysoylu spoke about the history of celebrating February 21 as the International Mother Language Day, emphasized the merits of national leader Heydar Aliyev in the development and enrichment of our language.
He said that, the national leader Heydar Aliyev's decree dated June 18, 2001 "On improvement of the state language" has created the ground for the free development and widespread use of the Azerbaijani language.
It was brought to attention that the International Mother Language Day was proclaimed in 1999 by the General Conference of UNESCO, since February 2000, is held annually to promote cultural diversity, including multilingualism. International Mother Language Day reiterates that everyone has the right to preserve and develop their native language.
Speaking about the historical and spiritual significance of the day, M.Nagysoylu noted that, the relevant Order of President Ilham Aliyev "On implementation of mass publications in Azerbaijani language Latin script" and "State program on the use in accordance with the time requirements of the Azerbaijani language in the context of globalization and development linguistics in the country" is a manifestation of great concern for the development of our language.
The next speaker was Doctor of Philology Buludhan Khalilov, who spoke about the peculiarities of the historical evolution and current trends in the development of our native language.
Addressing the meeting, Professors Sanubar Abdullayev Sayaly Sadigov, PhD in philology Maharramli Baba and others stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness and promote our native language.
Then were delivered reports on "Native language - as the attribute of our independence," "Language - the spiritual wealth of the people," "Let us preserve the purity of their mother tongue."
