Early ancient 134 graves investigated in Lerik region

Since 2012, early ancient 134 graves were investigated in Dirikh area of Lerik region, in the Piboztepe necropolis in the territory of Gurdasar village.

According to the senior researcher of the ANAS Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, PhD in History Jeyhun Eminli, infant graves have been discovered at the lower part of necropolis. Meanwhile, pottery, bronze and silver jewelry, iron weapons were buried with the dead, scientist noted.

During field researches in the areas close to the necropolis were revealed 20 monuments, which were mapped by registering GPS coordinates.

Fabric fragments found in graves have been analyzed in Istanbul, Turkey, Natural Dye Research and Development (DATU) laboratory, and analysis showed that the population of that period made clothes of canvas fabrics dyed with natural paints. Ceramic material and anthropological studies were conducted by the U.S. University of Pennsylvania.
