The first meeting of the Commission for Economic and Humanitarian Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of St. Petersburg of the Russian Federation was held in St. Petersburg.
In the work of the commission, our country was represented by a delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Co-Chairman of the Commission Sahib Mammadov. The delegation included representatives of several ministries, committees and other state structures, including the head of the Department of Science and Education of ANAS, Professor Aminaga Sadigov.
Initially, the delegation of Azerbaijan laid flowers to the bas-relief of the national leader Heydar Aliyev in St. Petersburg.
At the meeting S. Mammadov noted that cooperation with the Russian Federation is based on the principles of good-neighborliness and mutual respect and is at the level of strategic partnership. He informed in detail about the economic reforms that are a continuation of the successful policy of the head of the Azerbaijani state and played an important role in the development of the economy.
The prospects of cooperation in the fields of science, education, culture, economy, health, and ecology between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the government of St. Petersburg were discussed at the event, the commission members put forward their opinions and proposals.
Speaking at the commission meeting, Professor Aminaga Sadigov spoke about the attention and support of the Azerbaijani government to science, education and high technologies, as well as funds involved in financing various programs. The scientist also informed about existing international scientific relations, memorandums, contracts and agreements signed in recent years in the field of scientific cooperation, relations between the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and the scientific and educational institutions of St. Petersburg, jointly implemented projects, research works. A. Sadigov put forward a number of concrete proposals on the establishment of cooperation in the near future.
Within the framework of the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation met with the Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko and the Vice-Governor Sergei Movchan. At the meetings, an exchange of views took place on the issues of expanding bilateral cooperation.
Then the Azerbaijani delegation got acquainted with the Special Economic Zone and the Center for Import Substitution and Localization of St. Petersburg and the State Hermitage. They also honored the memory of the victims of the terrorist act committed in the St. Petersburg metro, and laid a wreath at the scene.
The event was also attended by Consul General of Azerbaijan in St. Petersburg Soltan Gasimov and Trade Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Russian Federation Ruslan Aliyev.
