In the Gizilkend village, Imishli region a treasure of silver coins has been discovered.
After informing ANAS Institute of Archeology and Ethnography about the treasure, a resident of region Mammadaga Rustamov sent an image of one of the coins to the e-mail of this scientific institution.
During the inspection of the coin, it was found that the front side of the coin is depicted Aleksandr Makedonsky (336-323 BC). Nine coins, discovered by Etiram Hasanov were transferred to the staff of the institute, seconded to the Imishli district. After examining the site of the discovery of the treasure, archaeologists have determined that the settlement and the necropolis dating back to the ancient period were also located here.
The archeologists who have examined the place of detection of a treasure have defined that the settlement and a necropolis relating to the antique period have been here too located.
It has been noted that, now the treasure is investigated in Department of numismatics of institute. In the nearest future on the place of detection of a treasure archaeological research works will begin.
Note that, those monetary treasures of the antique period in our country have been revealed in 1958 in Shamakhe (in the village of Hynysly), 1966 - in Gabale and 1972 - in the territory of Agsu district (in the village of Nuydi). Unlike them, the treasure found in Imishli consists of silver drachmas of Aleksandr Makedonsky.
