A scientific conference dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet and public figure of the XIX century Molla Panah Vagif was held in the Nakhchivan Branch of ANAS.

The event was held with the joint organizational support of the Nakhchivan Branch, Nakhchivan State University and the Writers' Union of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

At the conference, the chairman of the department, Academician Ismayil Hajiyev emphasized the importance of the Order of President Ilham Aliyev "On holding the 300th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet Molla Panah Vagif" on January 12, 2017 in terms of promotion of the poet's work. The scientist said that according to the order, a cycle of events is being held in the country. The celebration of the 300th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet Molla Panah Vagif on an international scale by UNESCO and TURKSOY is a high assessment not only of the work of Molla Panah Vagif, but of Azerbaijani literature in general.

Informed about the life and work of the outstanding master of speech, personality and social activity, I. Hajiyev noted that Molla Panah Vagif was considered an outstanding poet not only of Azerbaijan, but of the entire Turkic world.

The chairman of the department reminded that in 1982, on the initiative of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, the mausoleum was erected on the grave of the poet, located in the center of the ancient culture of Azerbaijan - the city of Shusha. But during the seizure of Shushi by insidious Armenian bandit detachments, along with historical monuments of architecture and material culture, the mausoleum and house of poetry of Vagif were also shot and destroyed.
