All-republic scientific seminar in the field of Earth Sciences

ANAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics held a nationwide scientific seminar on "A New Perspective on the Formation of the South Caspian Oil and Gas Basin: Mantle Diaprism - Transformation of Endogenous Hydrocarbon Fluids" in the field of Earth Sciences.

Opening the event, Deputy Director for Science, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences Dadash Huseynov spoke about the importance of the topic and modern research conducted in this direction. It was noted that, the results achieved will cause great interest in science.

Then, an extensive report was delivered by the head of the Department of Petrology of the Institute, Academician Arif Ismayilzadeh. The scientist noted that in the polycyclic formation of the Caspian-Persian segment of the Alpine-Himalayan folded belt, along with the activation of the mantle possessing the transformation of hydrocarbon fluids, 3 stages of tectonomagmatic activation - Gersin, Cimmerian and Alpine, correlated and successively manifested from the north to the south in the geodynamic zonal structure Fold belt.

Noting that, as a result of this process huge hydrocarbon deposits were formed in the Gersin and Alpine stages in the Caucasus, Academician added that, because of the absence of a screen layer in the South Caspian basin at the Cimmerian stage, only small oil manifestations were formed only in the Kura lowland.

A.Ismayilzadeh said that at the end of the pontious stage with the opening of the Strait of Gibraltar, the basins of the Mediterranean, Black and Caspian Seas were replenished by the waters of the Mediterranean, Black and Caspian Seas: "In connection with the development of mantle diaprism, the stretching forces were stimulated by the deepening of the South Caspian Sea and the formation of a productive layer with Sandy-clay composition 6-7 km thick, accompanied by a rapid deposition of sediments and filling subsequently with endogenous hydrocarbon fluids."

Academician has brought to attention fact that, the oil and gas content of the South Caspian Basin was manifested in the late Pliocene epoch by the transformation of endogenous hydrocarbon fluids.

In conclusion were held discussions around the report.
