For the first time, researchers of ANAS are carrying out scientific research on the islands of the Caspian Sea.
The studies conducted with organizational support of the Institute of Oil and Gas and ANAS Institute of Zoology, wich cover the islands of Chilov, Kur Dili, Khara Zira, Boyuk Tava, Kichik Tava and Gil, including Baku and the archipelagos of Absheron peninsula. Studies that started on the island of Chilov continue on the island of Khara Zira.
The Institute of Oil and Gas studies the processes of soil formation and volcanism on the islands of the Caspian Sea and the Institute of Zoology - flora, fauna and landscapes of the islands.
Since the flora and fauna of the islands, 80 percent of which are of volcanic origin, have never been studied, the studies conducted are of great importance for the Azerbaijani science. In carrying out the research, the droning device was used for the first time, through which the territory was monitored, images taken and 15 minutes accumulated the necessary information.
The expedition of 12 people included soil scientists, geologists, landscape scientists and geobotanists. Studies will last two years.
