ANAS Nakhchivan Department held the event "Archaeological research in Nakhchivan" dedicated to large-scale research conducted in the Autonomous Republic since 2006.

Opening the event, chairman of the Department, Academician Ismail Hajiyev noted that, this year was carried out 2 international and 3 republican expeditions in different territories of the region.

He said that, the expedition of the department carried out joint excavations with archaeologists of the National Center for Scientific Research of France in various territories of the region, were revealed numerous samples of material culture.

Academician I.Hajiyev brought to attention that this year US archaeologists are carrying out 10-day reconnaissance expeditions on the territory of the Autonomous Republic.

Then, head of the Azerbaijan-French international archaeological expedition project, employee of the National Center for Scientific Research of France, Catherine Marro, spoke about the layers found in the settlements of Wuchang Aril, Shorsu and Kultepe I.

She noted that, during the archaeological research were achieved important results regarding the history of Nakhchivan. It was reported that, ceramic products, animal bones, foci and other samples of material culture discovered during the excavations once again confirm that this territory has an ancient history.

Further, head of the Department of Archeology of the Ancient Period of the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography, head of the archaeological expedition in the Nakhchivan, corresponding member of ANAS Veli Bakhshaliyev informed about the archaeological finds found in Nakhchivan, settlements of Kultepe I, Uzunoba, Yeni Yol, Uchan alil and others.

He brought to the attention that the age of the monuments was established by means of carbon analysis and was mapped using a special apparatus.

Head of the Department of the Institute of History, Ethnography and Archeology of the Department, Ph.D in History, Associate Professor Zeynab Guliyeva, in her speech, put forward a proposal to attract botanists, biologists and zoologists to the expedition in the following years.

In conclusion of the event, Director of the Institute of History, Ethnography and Archeology of the Department, corresponding member of ANAS Fakhraddin Safarli and the Director of the Institute of Art, Language and Literature, correspondent member of ANAS Abulfaz Guliyev highly appreciated the studies conducted in the territory of Nakhchivan.
