ANAS Institute of Literature after Nizami Ganjavi held scientific and practical conference on "Modern problems of the Azerbaijani language: realities and challenges".

The event was organized by the support of ANAS Institute of Linguistics after Nasimi.

At the conference, ANAS Vice-President, Director of the Institute, Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that, the globalization process taking place in the world exerts its influence on language, literature and culture. He noted that "the State Program on the use of the Azerbaijani language in the context of globalization in accordance with the requirements of the time and the development of linguistics in the country" was approved precisely in order to preserve the purity and enrichment of our native language. Academician has brought to attention that, protection of the Azerbaijani language, national and spiritual values and culture is always in the center of attention of intellectuals, and a number of works were carried out in this direction at the ANAS.

Touching upon the monitoring of the Institute of Linguistics in connection with the protection of the norms of the literary language, I.Habibbayli said that, language norms are grossly violated in the media and advertising texts, unnecessary terms that have a correspondence in our language are used. I.Habibbeyli informed the participants of the event about the preparation of the new spelling rules of the Azerbaijani language.

In concluding his speech, the academician stressed the importance of returning archaicized words to the literary language.

Then, Academician-Secretary of ANAS Department of Humanitarian Sciences, Academician Teymur Kerimli in his speech spoke about the contest "Our native language is a national treasure". Academician said that, undergraduates and doctoral students currently studying at ANAS will take part in the competition. First prize winner will be awarded with a cash prize of 1500 AZN, II place - 1200 AZN, III place - 1000 AZN.

The conference also decided to hold a contest in the coming years between representatives of the media.

Then, Director of the Institute of Linguistics, Academician Mohsun Naghisoylu delivered a report on "Protection of the purity of the native language - civic duty", head of the Terminology Department of the Institute, Doctor of Philology sciences, Professor Sayali Sadigova with the report on "Terminology and word-making in the modern period", etc.
