Conference on "Identity and Multiculturalism: Methodology, Trends and Perspectives"

An international scientific conference on "Identity and Multiculturalism: Methodology, Trends and Perspectives" was held at Central Scientific Library of ANAS.

The event was organized by the Philosophy Institute, the Knowledge Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Italy.

Director of the Institute of Philosophy, Doctor of Science in Philosophy, Professor Ilham Mammadzade said that they have cooperated with Ca' Foscari University of Venice since 2013. He noted that recently a conference on "Comparison of Multiculturalism of Azerbaijan and Italy" was held at the university, and today's event is a logical continuation.

Academician Nargiz Akhundova, academician-secretary of the Department of Social Sciences of ANAS, said that Azerbaijan is a multicultural country and that representatives of different nations live together under the auspices of the state. He noted that Azerbaijan has historically been attracted to various ideologies, but after gaining independence, the national identity factor has come up again. He noted that academic unity and the unity of multiculturalism are already formed in Azerbaijan, and scientists have made some research in this direction.

Then head of the Knowledge Foundation Isakhan Valiyev said that multicultural values are reflected in the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He noted that Article 25 of the Constitution guarantees equal rights and freedoms of all persons regardless of race, ethnic origin, religion, language or sex.

I.Valiyev said that the preservation of national identity, the use of his mother tongue and other basic values were also included in the constitution, reflecting multiculturalism.

Speaking at the conference, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Azerbaijan Austo Massari said that the ideas of multiculturalism in Azerbaijan are supported by the state. A.Massari highly appreciated the participation of academics in this process.

Employees of the Institute of Philosophy - PhD in Philosophy, Professor Zumrud Guluzade made a speech on "National Culture and National Identity Concepts", PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Eynulla Madatli on "National Identity Issues of Azerbaijanis in Iran: Perspective Approaches and Realities", Doctor of Philosophy Fuzuli Gurbanov on "Identity concepts in the context of crisis: On the challenges of the 21st century”, Professor Aldo Ferrari, "Tbilisi - as the center of Transcaucasian multiculturalism” Professor Karlo Frappi" The Relationship Between Identity and Foreign Policy: Azerbaijani Multiculturalism" Professor Luicje Tarka “Multiculturalism, Universalism and Faith: Emanuel Severino and Thamman Panikkar's Dialogue on Philosophical Perspective ".
