Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

An international scientific conference on the subject "Azerbaijan on the crossroads of the history: troubled 1917" was held on November 2 at the main building of ANAS.

The event was organized by the Institute of History of ANAS, the Azerbaijani Historical Society and the Public Association of “Azerbaijani Historians”. The event was attended by scientists from Albania, Turkey, Russia, Uzbekistan, Poland, Finland and other countries.

Director of the Institute of History, academician Yagub Mahmudov spoke about the history of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. He said that the People's Republic, which embodies the national revival and enriches the national statehood traditions of Azerbaijan, existed only 23 months. On May 28, 2018 will be the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the first parliamentary republic - the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. The scientist noted the importance of the decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev in this regard.

The scientist noted the exceptional role of national leader Heydar Aliyev in the preservation of our independence. He emphasized that in accordance with the legacy of great leader Heydar Aliyev, the Institute of History published the "Encyclopedia of the People's Republic of Azerbaijan" in 2004-2005. This encyclopedia is the first fundamental scientific study covering all aspects of the ADR history.

Chairman of the Azerbaijani Historical Society Public Union, Head of the Department at History Institute, Professor Tofig Mustafayev gave information about the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and its activities in the short run. He stated that the People's Republic of Azerbaijan operated in tense and complicated socio-political conditions inside and outside our country. During the existence of the republic, it has made significant reforms in the democratic state and army building, economy, education, culture and other fields.

MP Fazail Ibrahimli, head of the department of the Institute of History, Doctor of History Irada Bagirova and other speakers spoke about the activities of personalities in the history of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. The successful policy pursued by the national leader Heydar Aliyev in the republic, regained the historical and cultural memory of our people, developed national consciousness, created the basis for the strengthening of independence dreams in the light of the ideology of Azerbaijanism and re-creation of the truth in the near future.

The conference was organized in four sections: "Socio-political situation in North Azerbaijan after the February revolution of 1917", "First Congress of Russian Muslims", "October Revolution and Azerbaijan" and "The Movement of Azerbaijani people and other people of the Russian Empire".
