Found Copper coins with Atbay Eldegez name on it

Nearly 150 copper coins of XI-XII centuries have been found in Lankaran recently. The ancient coins of Dirham and fossils have been accidentally found during household jobs and handed over to metal gathering points.

Head of the Department of Archeology of the Lankaran Regional Science Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, Mais Jafarov, said that these coins were accidentally acquired in the metal gathering points. After cleaning the money, it became clear that they were copper coins and belonged to the Atabey era.

M.Jafarov added that the dirhams were named "La ilaha illallah, Muhammed Rasul Allah" and 4 rashali caliphs. In the reverse side, the names of the city and Atabey Elygaz's names were engraved. This proves that the coins belong to the state of Atabeylar.

Taking into consideration of importance of new findings, the numismatic map of the Southeastern zone will be created, M.Jafarov emphasized.

Let's note that gold coins of Kirman Atabeys, discovered in the southern region in 2013, are currently kept in the Numismatics and Epigraphy Department of the National History Museum of Azerbaijan.
