ANAS Institute of Philosophy held a scientific and practical conference on "Genocide of Azerbaijanis in 1918 and Holocaust: Modern Ideological and Theoretical Approaches".
Director of the Institute, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Ilham Mammadzadeh spoke at the event and reported on the implementation of the Armenian nationalists' policy of ethnic cleansing, deportation and genocide against our compatriots at various stages of history.
He noted that, on March 30 - April 3, 1918 by Dashnak-Bolshevik armed gangs led by Stepan Shaumyan in Baku, Shamakhi, Guba, Khachmaz, Lankaran, Karabakh, Nakhchivan and other territories, tens of thousands of civilians were brutally killed for their ethnicity and religion, were destroyed settlements, cultural monuments, mosques and cemeteries.
I.Mammadzadeh brought to the attention that, the 1st political assessment of these events was given by the national leader Heydar Aliyev and the Order of the Great Leader of March 26, 1998, March 31 is celebrated as the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis. Recalling the Order of President Ilham Aliyev dated January 18, 2018 "On the 100th anniversary of the genocide of Azerbaijanis of 1918" the scientist noted that, a series of events is continuing in this direction.
The scientist said that, during the Second World War Jews faced such a tragedy, because of ethnicity, 6 million Jews were genocidal by the German fascists.
Then, Academician-Secretary of the Division of Social Sciences of ANAS, Academician Nargiz Akhundova in her speech called "The Genocide of Azerbaijanis of 1918" and the tragedy of the Holocaust by crimes against humanity in the XX century. Academician noted that, both peoples were victims of these tragedies precisely because of ethnicity. She said that, the Institute of Philosophy has a great responsibility in studying and communicating to the public the philosophical aspects of these tragedies.
Then, were listening the reports by Doctor of Philosophy Khatira Guliyeva on "Genocide - a modern philosophical and ethical approach to history", Doctor of historical sciences Vagif Abushov on "Genocides committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis at the beginning of the 20th century", Doctor of philosophical sciences Afag Rustamova on "Holocaust is a crime against humanity" in the XX century", etc.
