Opening ceremony of the 1st international scientific conference "Heydar Aliyev: the ideology of multiculturalism and tolerance" dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of the national leader Heydar Aliyev was held at the Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL) on April 9.

Initially, the participants of the event laid flowers to the bust of Heydar Aliyev in the foyer of the university, honoring his memory.

At the event, rector of the university, academician Kamal Abdulla noted that, the conference is held with the joint organizational support of AUL, New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) and the Baku International Center for Multiculturalism (ICM). Stressing that this solemn event is held for the first time in the history of AUL, K. Abdullah said that the purpose of the event is to promote the work of the national leader Heydar Aliyev in the field of multiculturalism. The event also serves to strengthen the links between universities, professionals and students. The rector noted that negotiations have been carried out and a joint plan of activities with foreign universities has been developed, in which sectional sessions of the conference will be organized. Each section provides for the participation of Azerbaijani scholars, as well as rectors and representatives of foreign universities - in the final plenary session. This project will give impetus to the spread of the ideas of the great leader in Europe and Asia, as well as the development of the ideology of Azerbaijanism in a new format.

Touching upon the issue of teaching the subject of multiculturalism abroad, K. Abdullah said that AUL has achieved a number of successes in the promotion of the Azerbaijani language, culture and multiculturalism in the world. So, in a number of foreign universities, with which the university cooperates, the center of the Azerbaijani language and culture has opened.

After the student anthem of Qaudeamus was sounded, the chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations Mubariz Gurbanli, speaking, stressed the significance of the conference from the point of view of popularization of Heydar Aliyev's ideas and multicultural values of our country in the world. Noting that Azerbaijan is a multicultural country, in our country attach great importance to national and spiritual and religious values, the state created all opportunities for everyone's free activity, regardless of his religious affiliation, M.Gurbanli emphasized that the foundations of all this were laid by the great leader Heydar Aliyev.

Speaking about the global threats that are taking place in the world, Deputy Minister of Education Firudin Gurbanov noted that Azerbaijan sees a solution to these problems in multiculturalism. Today, representatives of national minorities residing in Azerbaijan freely speak their native language. Many higher and secondary schools are using their native language, respecting customs and traditions.

Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that, since ancient times, representatives of different peoples live in peace in our country. Stressing that the tolerant environment is the main indicator of development, the academician said that the ideology of Azerbaijanism, the basis of which was laid by the national leader Heydar Aliyev, reflects the unity, solidarity of all peoples and ethnic groups in the country. The ideology of Azerbaijanism, built by the great leader at the level of state policy, is the basis of the philosophy of multiculturalism and tolerance. The unification of all peoples living in our country around a single ideology of Azerbaijanism is an important achievement of our independent state.

At the conference, Acting Executive Director of the Baku International Center for Multiculturalism Ravan Hasanov, Head of the Department of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Ethnic Relations, Multiculturalism and Religion Etibar Najafov, Head of the Nasimi District Executive Power Asif Askerov and others spoke about the multicultural and tolerant values of our country, the role of the nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev in the regulation of interethnic relations.

Then, the event continued its work at the sessions of the sections.

Plenary and final meeting of the conference, which will continue until May 5, will be held in AUL, and sectional meetings - in universities, as well as on the basis of relevant leading universities of different countries.
