Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

The idea is to celebrate the science day at the international level firstly emerged in the middle of the past century, but later the week of Science and Peace for the first time was organized by the NGO in 1986. Science and Peace Week’s success encouraged the organizers to continue this tradition. As a result, in 1988 UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the hold of International Science and Peace Week.

In advance, World Science Conference has put forward on this initiative in Budapest in 1999. The views of the authors justified that, “World Science Day for Peace and Development” on calendar to ensure the unity of the global community to solve problems with science.

Thus, the celebration of a science day officially was declared at the 31st session of General Conference of UNESCO in 2001 and is being held in many countries around the world since 2002.
