Conference on " Problems of Inland Water Basin: Thematic Study of the Caspian Sea Basin"

An international conference on "The Problems of the Inland Water Basin: Thematic Study of the Caspian Sea Basin" has started on May 12, jointly organized by the Institute of Geography named after H.Aliyev of ANAS and the Inter-Islamic Science and Technology Network on Oceanography .

Along with Azerbaijan, researchers from Germany, Switzerland, USA, France, Russia and other countries are participating in the conference.

Speaking at the event, director of the Institute of Geography, academician Ramiz Mammadov said that the conference will focus on the ways of solving existing problems in the basin of the Caspian Sea, Aral, Van and Urmia, and the expansion of international scientific cooperation in this direction. Ramiz Mammadov said that the planet is in danger of various reasons and aspects.

The main danger is the warming of the atmosphere of the planet. It remains the biggest problem of the future. The most obvious example of internal waters is the Caspian Sea. Therefore, people must protect the environment, biodiversity and physical condition of the Caspian Sea, the speaker underlined.

Academician Ramiz Mammadov said that the scientists in the conference have their own approaches to the biodiversity, economic, social and physical conditions of the Caspian Sea and joint efforts with foreign scientists will explore ways to prevent future disasters.

Then the conference continued on the sections - "Physical and Chemical Properties of the Caspian Sea", "Geology of the Sea, Geomorphology and Paleocography", "Geophysics, Seismology, Seismic Hazard Assessment" and other topics.

The conference will last till May 14.
