A group of employers of the Department of Geography of Land Resources of Azerbaijan of the Institute of Geography conducted a field expedition on the coastal plains of the Caspian coast from Sumgaitchay to Samurchay. The expedition, which aims to assess the impact of various aspects of human activity on the soil cover taking into account natural factors, is headed by the head of the department, Ph.D. in agricultural, Docent Ismail Guliyev.
During the work, changes in the current state of the soil cover, natural and anthropogenic changes in the earth were studied. As a result of studying several types of soil, scientific proposals were developed for the rehabilitation and efficient use of lands subject to intensive desertification. A large map of plant groups was also compiled.
The transformation of the soil cover in the study area was also determined by changes in the meridian and parallel directions depending on geographical factors.
Today, part of the surrounding land is used for agricultural purposes by “Gilan Holdinq”. For two years, the department staff has been working with the company to more effectively use these lands. As a result, the harvest on these lands reached 22-24 centers / ha. In the future, it is planned to carry out various scientific works in this direction.
