An international scientific conference on "The first democratic republic in the East and its place in the history of Azerbaijan" has been organized by the Institute of History of ANAS and "History Society of Azerbaijan " Public Union.

According to the orders, this year, the Institute of History organized a number of conferences in our country and abroad, and opened a Center for Studying  Azerbaijan at Warsaw University in Poland.

Referring to the topic of the conference, Y.Mahmudov said that our lands were distributed as a result of the Gulustan and Turkmanchay agreements signed in 1813 and 1828 and that they were trying to eradicate the history of Azerbaijan.

In a 23-month period, the ADR has carried out many reforms in economic, political, scientific, cultural, military and other spheres, and that women have the right to vote, Mahmudov noted.

This year, Azerbaijani Armed Forces had held a military parade on the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Baku's liberation from the Bolshevik-Dashnak forces by the Caucasian Islamic Army and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended the ceremony, the speaker underlined.

Y.Mahmudov said that the Institute of History had received tens of thousands of archival documents from Paris, London, Berlin, Delhi, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Istanbul, Ankara and other places.

He touched upon the importance of the ADR's relations with Russia, Georgia, the transfer of Irevan and surrounding territories to the Armenians, as well as research on the Araz Turkish Republic.

Then, chief department of the History Institute, chairman of the Public Union "History Society of Azerbaijan", Doctor in History Tofig Mustafazade informed the participants about the society's activities in 25 years.

MPs Fazail Ibrahimli, Fazail Aghamali, historian scientists Anar Isgandarov, Irada Mammadova and others said that the establishement of ADR laid the groundwork for the future independence of Azerbaijan.

The international conference continued its work with sections "Azerbaijan Democratic Republic is a glorious page of our history", "Azerbaijan in international relations in the period of the Republic" and "Parliament of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic".

It should be noted that during the two-day conference, the participants discussed issues such as "Parliament and army building issues", "Experience of state-religion relations in the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic"and other topics.
