Executive power of Goychay region, by support of the Knowledge Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Institute of Folklore held an international scientific conference on "Multidisciplinary function of the Azerbaijani Pomegranate" in Goychay.

At first, the event participants got acquired with the exhibition of folk art in Goychay region. The conference started with the demonstration of the documentary “One World - Thousands of Nations”.

The event was opened by the head of the Goychay Executive power Mehdi Salimzadeh. He told on government support, exports of pomegranate products and also noted that, Goychay is the only region where a number of valuable varieties of pomegranate, such as “Guleysha Azerbaijan”, “Bala Mursel”, “Shahnaz”, “Agshirin”, “Girmizigabig” “Veles”, “Shelli Melesi” are growing.

Then, Director of the Institute of Folklore, academician Mukhtar Imanov delivered a paper on the “Mythological semantics of pomegranate in Azerbaijani folklore”. Report indicates that, many genres of Azerbaijani folklore - tales, epics, bayati, Ashug art, folk songs has a narrative description of the pomegranate, its motifs and images.

The international conference also listened reports of the Executive Director of the Knowledge Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ph.D. in Pedagogical sciences, Associate Professor Oktay Samadov, teacher of Baku Eurasian University, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Seyfaddin Altayli, head of the administration of the the Knowledge Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Professor Isahan Veliyev.

At the event also held a presentation of “Traditional Narrative art” book by employee of the Institute of Folklore Atash Ahmadly. Later, the conference continued to work on the sections "Pomegranate in the economy and social life" and "The manifestation of pomegranate in art and culture".
