Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

An event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the participant of the Second World War, Professor Mazahir Abasov was held in the Main building of ANAS on December 19.

Director of the Institute of History named after A.Bakikhanov of ANAS, academician Yagub Mahmudov spoke about the life of Professor M.Abasov, his heroism in World War II, as well as contributions to history science. It was noted that during the Second World War, M.Abasov actively participated in the protection of Sevastopol and Odessa cities of Ukraine. Prof. M.Abasov was awarded with "Shohrat" order for his achievements in the field of science.

It was noted that during his 1941-1945 war, M.Abasov proved that Baku was the main fuel source of the USSR for the first time in our historiography. For the first time in his monograph "Mardlik qanadlarinda" as a military pilot, he spoke about the military planes of Azerbaijan and gave examples from heroes.

Head of the Milli Mejlis Apparatus Safa Mirzayev, MP Eldar Guliyev, Professor Musa Bagirov, Deputy Director on Scientific Affairs of the Institute of History, Ph.D. in history Jabi Bahramov, writer Georgi Zapletin and others talked about the importance of scientific creativity of M.Abasov and shared memories about him.

Alovsat Abasov, the son of prominent scientist, thanked the organizers and participants of the event for respect for the memory of his father.
