ANAS Institute of Linguistics after Nasimi held republican conference on "Yusif Seyidov and topical problems of Azerbaijani linguistics" devoted to the 90th anniversary of the prominent linguist, Honored Scientist, Professor Yusif Seyidov.

Vice-President of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbayli, Academician-Secretary of Division of Humanitarian Sciences, academician Teymur Karimli, head of Ataturk Center in Azerbaijan, academician Nizami Jafarov, employees of Linguistics Institute and media representatives attended the event.

An exhibition of works by the scientist has also been organized within the conference.

Academician Isa Habibbayli opened the event and spoke about the scientific and pedagogical activity of the prominent linguist.

He noted that, since the 60s of the XX century Yusif Seyidov has been one of the key figures in the field of linguistics in Azerbaijan and has conducted important research on syntax, morphology and word combinations.

According to the academician from the 11th to the end of the 20th century, the professor collected and expounded his ideas on the word, language, and its role in the life of a person, society, and created a compact recording of linguistic and literary criticism of the people.

He is the author of more than 200 scientific works, including more than 30 books devoted to the scientific content and methodical excellence of the theoretical and practical problems of linguistics, as well as hi is the author of valuable textbooks as “Contemporary Azerbaijani Language”, “Grammar of Azerbaijani Language. Morphology”.

He said that, he is conducting research on literary criticism and analyzes the creativity of many Azerbaijani writers. He also said that, the scientist regularly spoke at the press with publicity, literature, language and public-political processes.

At the conference, the report was listened by Director of the Institute of Linguistics, academician Naghisoylu Mohsun, correspondent member of ANAS Kamran Aliyev, Doctor of Philology, Professor Sevil Mehdiyeva, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Tarana Shukurlu and Dean of Philology Faculty of BSU, Doctor of Philology, Associate Professor Elchin Mammadov.

The videoconference was organized with the Institute of Art, Language and Literature of ANAS Nakhchivan Division and discussions were held at the event. The lectures were delivered by the director of the institute, correspondent member of ANAS Abulfaz Guliyev and docent Zulfiya Ismayil.

Then, was demonstrated a documentary on scientist’s life and creativity.

At the end, the daughter of the scientist Vafa Seyidova expressed her gratitude to the organizers and participants of the conference.
