The final round of “XIII Republican Olympiad in Informatics among university students”

On May 5, 2018 at the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS the final stage of the "Republican Olympiad in Informatics among university students" was held.

The organizers of the event are the Ministry of Transport, Communication and High Technologies, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Education and the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS.

The main goal of the Olympiad on May 17 - World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is to increase the knowledge and interest of university students in the field of informatics and programming, as well as involve the selected students in international competitions.

Then Deputy Minister of Transport, Communication and High Technologies Elmir Velizade said that the future of Azerbaijan should be closely involved in the formation of an information society formed by the dynamic development and development of the ICT, and to master the most up-to-date technologies.

He stressed the need for training highly qualified personnel in this field to support the development of high priority areas in our country. I.Valizadeh said that the knowledge competition of the higher education students in computer science, programming and the interest in this field is too important. Valizadeh noted that the competition will create conditions for the students to achieve greater success and expressed their readiness to represent our country in international competitions and wished success to the Olympics participants.

69 teams from 24 universities across the country have been eligible to participate in the competition this year, and 17 of them have advanced to the final stage. He noted that in addition to the capital this year, the universities of Ganja, Mingechevir, Nakhchivan, Sumgayit and Lankaran State Universities, Azerbaijan Technological University as well as Azerbaijan State Agrarian University showed a special interest in the Olympiad, the speaker emphasized.

Vice President of ANAS, Director of the Institute of Information Technology of ANAS, academician Rasim Alguliyev welcomed the participants of the Olympiad on behalf of the ANAS President, academician Akif Alizadeh.

Speaking about the development of science and education in Azerbaijan, the scientist said that the application of ICT in these spheres is a great opportunity. He emphasized the importance of developing informatics and programming in the world and said that there is a need for highly skilled, highly-qualified and innovative thinking personnel in this area.

The academician also said that the International Informatics Olympiad will be held in Baku in August of the current year and this is the next success of our country.

The scientist offered to create the official web portal of "Informatics Republican Olympiad among high school students", to celebrate all winning teams and other statistical data on the portal.

Speaking at the event, including the chairman of the Juri Ramin Mahmudzade, spoke about the role of ICT in the development of society in the contemporary world, the training of professionals in this field and wished the youth success.

At the ceremony, the teacher of Baku Engineering University Etibar Seyidzade gave detailed information on technical issues and procedures. He said that the Olympiad is held in accordance with the rules of international ACM / ICPC (International Olympiad in Informatics among high school students). He said that during the competition, each team will be given a task to solve algorithmic issues within 5 hours, and the four best teams will be announced as winners.

Then members of the Organizing Committee got acquainted with the teams that participated in the final stage of the competition.

In order to ensure transparency, the competition was supervised by teachers through a video surveillance system installed at the institute.

Winners (I-IV places) will be rewarded on May 17 by Honorary diplomas and prizes from the Azercell operator and “BestComp Group”, as well as by the Ministry of Transport, Communication and High Technologies.
